Academy U12's Match - North WIN against the South

After a  busy half term schedule across the County, South West and Schools Champs its was the turn of the County Academy and GGG squads to gather at Lydney for the North v South match. A bright and blustery Lydney GC awaited the 7 matches after a briefing on the difference between matchplay and strokeplay as well as Head Coach Tom Gillespie taking them through parts of the physical warm up that GGU S&C consultants Viktus are introducing to the performance squads

Despite a strong left to right wind and firm fairway many of the opening tee shots made short work of the tricky opening hole meaning few half’s and some matches already seeing momentum in the sprint 9 hole matches

Special mention goes to Dan Parsons who’s chip in on the Par 3 4th helped the North get their first point on the board after the South taking the opening 3 matches while the mixed team of Finley and Freya along with Teddy and Ben evened things up so it all balanced on match 6.

1 down with 3 to play Ed and James pulled it back on 7 and guarantee the match went down 9 where some cool finishing from Rollo and Rory secured a full point and the overall match for the north

A big thanks you to Mark, John and everyone at Lydney for being such good and friendly hosts as always, to all the parents for getting the boys there and supporting them so well and big thanks as always to Debbie Casling for all her help getting the match together

With weather seemingly looking like holding for the summer it should be a busy summer of golf fuelled by the enthusiasm all the young golfers showed today
